Mini-movie reviews
2001: A Space Odyssey – yes, I just saw it. Really well filmed, really well made, and it holds up against age. Still doesn’t change the fact that I don’t want to watch the same two guys stare at a monitor for 20 minutes/scene without saying a friggin word or progressing the plot. Speaking of plot, there wasn’t one. Grossly pretentious, even by my standards. 2/5 stars.
Jersey Girl – really, really enjoyed it. People just need to shut the fuck up and stop riding the J.Lo train. Personally, I don’t like her, but I liked her work in this, and she’s only in it for the first 20 minutes. I think the movie got a bad rap because the studio marketing dept. really tried to run the Bennifer angle and got taken to the cleaners. Affleck, Liv Tyler, the kid, and George Carlin all turn in some nice, genuine work. Hell, at the very least, you get to see Carlin and Stephen Root routinely work off each other and develop some hilarious bit work. 4/5 stars.
